​​Beauty by Happenstance:
​I am forever inspired by the raw material of clay and the transformative nature of fire.The aesthetic I value is achieved by wood firing in kilns that are fired over the course of many days and reading industrial temperatures if 2400 -2500 degrees F, using wood as a fuel source.The aesthetic celebrates the philosophy of “Wabi Sabi”. Wabi Sabi is a world view that I have to appreciate in my life and ceramics that is “centered on finding beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and simplicity”. The wood firing process results in the unexpected and unpredictable color variations imparted by the flames direct interaction with the pots.Often times “Kannyu” a Japanese aesthetic of fine superficial lines in glaze results and do not affect the functionality, the underlying clay body impervious. All glazes used are food safe and nontoxic.
